Proper Pub!

This pub has everything going for it. it is very friendly, and popular with all ages . It has a great selection of home cooked food and drinks and prices are very reasonable. It is beautifully kept and spotlessly clean. It is a real part of the community. It is also currently the CAMRA Northampton pub of the year. Highly recommended.

The search for Northamptons best burger leads us to The Lamplighter.

The Lamplighter, found just outside the town centre, is one of Northampton’s finest pubs and well known for being one of the best real ale pubs in the county. The pub regularly hosts a range of beer festivals, brilliant live music as well as featuring a range of high quality ales from micro-brewers across the UK. In recognition of the Lamplighter’s vibrant atmosphere and excellent service, the pub was recently named Northants CAMRA Pub of the Year on top of a host of other awards. The pub is also renowned for offering one of the finest traditional Sunday roasts, but such talk shall be saved for another time. For now, there is pressing burger business at hand.

The range at the Lamplighter is not extensive, with the pub offering 6 burgers in total. After looking at the menu, we were at a loss; each burger looked ideal. After speaking to the friendly staff, we were pointed in the direction of the BBQ Beef Burger. Being warned that the burger was not for the fainthearted, we were eager to put the Lamplighter to the test.

Perfect beef. Rich, flavoursome cheese. Crispy bacon. Burger perfection. It was a joyous and unforgettable burger experience. To devour it all is no small feat, but the perseverance pays off. The beef, cheese and BBQ sauce combination works wonderfully well together and is unbelievably delicious. Whilst the onion ring may have been better served on the side than within the burger, this tiny snafu can easily be overlooked with such a brilliant creation. The Lamplighter receives a well deserved 5 stars. Over the months, we have long searched for the 5 star burgers that reside in Northampton. Then, all of a sudden, two appear before us. It is true what they say, when it rains, it pours (well 5 star burgers at least).

Fantastic quality throughout...

Visited on the evening of the 25th of March before the Northampton v Wimbledon game and was extremely impressed. Was welcomed by a very enthusiastic and engaging bar man who was up for talking beer and had great knowledge of the local area and the top pubs round the country. Gave some top recommendations on beer (the brewsters American Pale being particularly stunning).

He even gave us a generous sample of some chocolate brownies that the kitchen had just finished baking and they were to die for. Grabbed a few words with the owners and they were equally as courteous and passionate. Despite being quiet at 5pm the place steadily filled up without being at all over bearing. Was a nice mix of clientele who were all up for a chat.

Ordered a couple of the pie of the day specials, I had the venison and butternut squash and it was superb. Fresh, tasty and served with proper mash and fresh veg. The others in our group had vary different meals and they were all to the same great standard and came out speedily despite the kitchen obviously getting busy. I visit many pubs round the country following the dons and this has to go down as one of, if the not the best for a long, long time.

From the great staff, the warm and welcoming decor, good beer selection and quality food a lot of care and consideration as gone into every detail and its shows. Everyone involved should be proud and Northampton should consider themselves lucky to have this place. Very much looking forward to going back again next year

On a recent trip to Northampton I spent my Friday night at The Lamplighter. I just want to say thanks to the bar staff, regulars and kitchen for a great time. Food, ales, large comfortable space. Go, and enjoy a real ale.

Best Pub in Northampton!

The best pub in Northampton by a country mile. A wide range of real ales and continental beers, great Sunday lunches and a vibrant music scene. Recently refurbished to include a "snug", something for everyone!

Cracking family run pub and top-notch Sunday Roast

Struggle to find a decent Sunday Roast in Northampton but you won't find better than this. It was good some months ago, but they have really upped their game and it is now even better. Great range of real ales well kept. They really cater for everyone. Varied live music for both young and old. A really vibrant, well managed good old English (with a nod to the Irish!) pub with exceptional home cooked food.

Super Sunday lunch

Vibrant. Busy but not packed. Good roast (at £8.95 a head). Attentive service. Interesting real ale selection. Pleasant music in the background. The Lamplighter is highly recommended for a relaxing and tasty Sunday lunch.

If Carlsberg did pubs......

We visited Northampton recently and heard about this great pub from friends. We decided to visit given their rave review and weren't disappointed. We arrived early evening for food which was delicious and stayed on to enjoy a dj set. The atmosphere was chilled and staff were very friendly. I can highly recommend a visit here, this is how pubs should be run.

Loving the Lamplighter................

Been a few times recently, lunch time snack, sunday lunch and to a private party on a busy Saturday night. Good value food, great beer, bottles, mirrors and glasses all spotless and evidence of a genuine and sustained effort to both make and keep the place nice.
Its a welcoming and evidently very well managed little oasis that really does deserve to do well.

The perfect pub

A welcoming pub with a great atmosphere and a good selection of beers. A great night out for couples and groups of friends, especially when there is live music on.

I've heard the food is damn fine too.

I love this pub!

Best Sunday lunch to date!

We had previously visited The Lamplighter just for drinks a few times and had been impressed with it, although we had never eaten there.

A colleague at work had spoken to me about their Sunday roasts and told me how wonderful they were. So when my partner and I were meeting friends for dinner we decided to try there. I was a bit concerned as it is a fairly small pub and I was worried that it would be busy and there may not be many places to sit. I didn't need to worry. Since I had last been there it had been done up. There were now 3 sections to the pub. It was also early evening and we had probably missed the busy period.

Myself and my partner are vegetarians, and our friends meat eaters. Of the 5 or so choices 2 were vegetarian options which was nice. We had the goats cheese wellington and our friends had roast pork and beef. They were all just under £9 each. We were served quickly and the food arrived promptly. A few of us had gone outside for a cigarette and a member of staff even came outside to let us know the food had arrived.

The portions were generous. They all were served with 2 massive roast potatoes, a Yorkshire pudding, vegetables (al dente) and gravy. It was absolutely delicious, the best I had ever had. There were 3 choices for dessert but we were all too stuffed.

It is not your run of the mill pub, it is well decorated and they serve real ales and ciders. There were a mix of clientele, and children seemed to be welcome. There is a fairly large smoking garden with heaters.

We will certainly be making a trip back, and may even try a dessert this time.

Now this is a great Pub!

Now this is a great pub. The open room plan makes it welcoming, the staff and patrons are friendly and there's a decent little smoking area/garden out the back. There was a good range of ales available but didn't try those as there is also Krombacher on draught which, in my opinion (for what it's worth) is a great german beer. Only visited Northampton for a couple of days but spent two evenings here which says a lot. It's a real gem of a local pub.
